Arepas: Andean Beauties, Now Brooklyn Chic

I am sorry for posting here, but the website does not provide any other contact/posting information.

Brooklyn, New York, July 9, 2007 – Cafecito Bogotá (CB) is poised to unveil its full arepa menu at a 7:00pm reception on July 20, 2007 just in time to celebrate Colombia’s Independence Day. Expect to see an exotic arepa assortment comprised of over 15 mouth-watering choices, which will range from the traditional cheese-infused Arepa Paisa to the innovative Arepa Millonaria confectioned with red caviar. This menu addition will turn Cafecito Bogotá into Brooklyn´s one-and-only arepa café, and fabulous Greenpoint into arepa central.

Originally from the northern Andes of South America, these sleek beauties are wheat-free, round flat breads made with the finest, ground white Hominy corn, and then slowly grilled and fashionably-dressed with captivating food concoctions, resulting in delectable, Brooklyn-hip meals. The owners Mr. Fredy and Oscar Varela also hail from the Andes where they grew up enjoying this treat in Bogotá City as this food is a staple in that country’s rich diet. “As a Colombian, I wanted to “spill the beans”, and share with fellow New Yorkers the pleasures of this delicious treat from my upbringing” says Mr. Fredy Varela who considers that arepas are ready for a debut to new alta-cocina connoisseurs in Brooklyn and across the country.

CB´s arepa menu consists of expanding creations with a fine New York twist, mostly inspired and named after Colombian cities and regions; Santander (chorizo), Tolima (lean pork) and Caleña (shrimp) arepas are some of the choices that will surely stimulate every diners’ taste buds. Many vegetarian alternatives such as Medellín (beans and plantain) and Boyacá (champignon and eggplant) are also part of the menu.

Located at 1015 Manhattan Avenue ( between Huron & Green Streets) in the transforming, artist haven of Greenpoint, Cafecito Bogotá opened its doors last Summer to offer creative brunch with signature Colombian dishes, French/Colombian sandwiches and breads, hearty soups and salads, and amazing coffees; but the newly-added, full arepa menu will surely offer unique selections to area residents and visitors who are always excited to embrace innovative cuisine.
