- The Metrocard you bought for the subway
is usable on MTA busses. The acceptions are that express busses only accept
7-Day Express Bus Plus MetroCards, or Pay-Per-Ride MetroCards. If you're
riding without any of these, make sure you have nickles, as they
won't accept pennies (nor will they accept half dollars). If you pay
with coin, ask for a paper transfer, which is valid for two hours after
purchase (as is a Pay-Per-Ride Metrocard). For detailed maps and schedules of
the bus routes, go to the MTA bus map or
MTA bus
schedule sites.
- The B24 is not the most direct route
to Williamsburg, take the B61 instead. The B24
runs on Greenpoint Avenue from West Street until New Cavalry Cemetery,
where it hooks onto 48th Street and then onto the BQE to Williamsburg.
The B24 runs this route daily, with the last Williamsburg bound bus
leaving Greenpoint at 12:10 AM. The last Greenpoint bound bus from
Williamsburg leaves from Broadway and Kent at 12:40 AM.
- The B43 route begins at Box Street, at
the northern tip of Greenpoint, and runs on Manhattan Avenue, then along
the east side of McCarren Park on Graham Avenue. At Metropolitan and
Graham Avenues, the B43 intersects with the L train, which makes it a
viable substitute for the G line. If you need a hospital, the B43 passes
right infront of Woodhull Hospital, at Broadway and Graham Avenue. From
Woodhull Hospital, the B43 continues south through Bedford-Stuyvesant
(Bed-Stuy) and Crown Heights to Prospect Park, just to the south of the
Botanical Gardens.
- The B48 route begins at Norman Avenue and
Meeker Avenue in east Greenpoint, runs down Nassau Avenue until it meets
Manhattan, and then travels on Lorimer Street. At Lorimer and Graham
Avenue the B48 intersects with the L train, which makes it a viable
alternative to the G line for eastern Greenpoint. The B48 also
intersects with the J and M trains a little further south at Lorimer and
Broadway. If you need a little fresh air, jump off at Willoughby Avenue
and walk west to Fort Greene
Park. From Fort Green, the B48 continues south through Clinton Hill
to Prospect Park. If you jump off at Classon Avenue and Eastern Parkway
it's only one block west to the Brooklyn Museum of Art, or the
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens that sit
behind it. Like the B43, the B48 route terminates at Ocean Avenue and
Lincoln Road.
- The B61 runs from Freeman Street down
Manhattan Avenue, then turns in the midst of McCarren Park down Driggs
Avenue to Williamsburg. If you're trying to get to the heart of
Williamsburgs' Bedford Avenue, jump off the bus around North 7th and
walk one block straight out the door (west). You can also catch the L
Train at 7th and Driggs or Bedford. From Bedfordesque Williamsburg, the
B61 continues south, skirting the Brooklyn Navy Yard,
and then follows the shore of the East River and Upper New York Bay to
the neighborhood of Red Hook.
- On its return to Greenpoint, the B61
runs through Williamsburg up Bedford Avenue. If you're looking for an
alternative to the G Train, jump off the L at Bedford Avenue, and catch
the B61 on Bedford between North 7th and North 8th.
